Mi Casa es Tu Casa

The aesthetics of a retreat destination are appealing: Is it nestled in lush greenery? Is it off the beaten path? Is it quiet? Am I close to nature or am I surrounded by concrete? Is it right at the ocean's edge?

The variety of choices to customize your experience to fit your (variable) moods is critical. Can you find a quiet place to read, reflect, nap or write? Can you enjoy unstructured social time with options for sunbathing, shade, cooling off in a pool or sipping on coconut water...out of a coconut? Can you grab a kayak and head off the dock out into the ocean for a paddle adventure?

But what actually elevates an experience from a recounting of spaces and scenery to a memory built into the heart? What makes one travel destination stand out from another?

Here are some clues:

"The island is uniquely beautiful. We became fast friends with Natalia, Supy and the rest of the Upachaya team. " -Sadie

"I felt held in a space by people who showed up as themselves, which was obvs you two, but also Natalia and Supy, which was the most pleasant surprise." - Melly

"We all fell in love with our 'Supy Chef' who crafted on-site meals for us in the yoga palapa and even let us try our hand at creating our own tortillas in her kitchen for the final day’s breakfast. She and host Natalia felt like part of the sisterhood nurtured into being on this retreat rather than mere attendants." - KT

We believe making meaningful connections to people is what marks the distinction between a casual beautiful tropical retreat and a truly heart-centered, human-centered, home-centered experience. You've heard the expression: Mi casa es tu casa. This is the essence of the hospitality of home as an experience of Central American culture. Not only does our retreat location Upachaya provide you with the aesthetics of jungle and ocean delightfully free of concrete, as well as an ample range of recreational choices for your every mood, it also has something no other boutique resort has: Natalia and Supy.

Natalia is our hostest with the mostest: professional (without being aloof), accommodating, friendly, caring, keen and fun.

Supy is our SUPer chef - a tender-hearted, warm culinary queen who knows the North American palette whilst offering an authentic Caribbean Honduran cuisine experience.

When we queried our retreat guests about the food, we got this:

"ARE YOU KIDDING?

Supy💗💗💗"

If you value a tourist experience where not only are you in an amazing Caribbean dream location, but also you are making sincere connections to local people, where you can engage and interact to have a cultural exchange, then join us this March. You will be able to integrate into your own lived journey the heartfelt expression: Mi Casa es Tu Casa.
