SUMPTUOUS TROPICAL TREASURES start with a faintly salty breeze wafting in through the window. You rise from the bed and place your bare feet on the pleasantly warm floor. As you open the door, you are greeted with lush jungle greenery and birds warbling in the morning light. The sun reflects off of the massive shiny leaves and your skin revels in the temperate Caribbean air.
The Tropical Treasures that await you on ROAM Yoga's debut retreat to Roatan, Honduras are a sensory experience of full immersion: for the body, for the heart and for the spirit. You will experience tropical fruits in a way you never knew they could be - so close to the source, pineapples have a melt-in-your-mouth sweetness with just the slightest of perfect tangy that just doesn't happen with exported fruit. You will try un-exportable fruits, like apple-bananas (short, squat bananas with extremely thin skin, firm texture and the most delectable nuanced flavors - almost apple-like).
You will tour a cacao factory, to pick out your very own Honduran-grown cacao for a ceremony of balance we will hold in honor of the Vernal Equinox. The theobromine in cacao supports increased blood flow to the heart, and is loaded with antioxidants. We will slightly sweeten our ceremonial elixir with maple syrup harvested directly by Miriam and her husband. In opening our attention to heart-centered desires in intentional ceremony, the rich, deep cacao provides a sensory saturation to connect with this Mayan medicine in circle together.
A short stroll down the soft warm white sand beach leads right into the uniquely Caribbean turquoise glitter of the welcoming sea. In the dregs of late March in Minnesota, we can often find our spirit weary of layers: of the clothes we wear, of snow we shovel, of seemingly endless days of cold and dry. Here, your layers are gently eased away as your toes and fingers, your skin and your spirit thaw out, warm up and come alive.
